Public Transportation in Madrid

Why Do You Need to Buy a House in 2022?

Madrid, Spain's capital and largest city, is filled with must-see attractions, a plethora of fantastic pubs and restaurants, and a nightlife scene unlike any other. To make your travel experience to Madrid a bit easier, we will talk about Madrid's public transportation today.

Madrid's public transportation system is exceptionally efficient and connects to the city's main points of interest. It is also reasonably inexpensive in contrast to other European cities.

Metro

The best way to wander around Madrid is by using the metro. It is the most frequently used public transportation in Madrid, and it is a secure way to get around. The first metro line, which connected Sol and Cuatro Caminos, was built in 1919, and now it has 13 lines and 301 stations. To use the metro of Madrid, you will first need to get a card from one of the electric machines, which are available inside the metro stations. Single journeys fees range from €1.50–€2. A 10 trip ticket costs €12.20. The metro runs from 6 am to 2 am every day.

Bus

You can easily access every corner of Madrid by using buses. The Madrid bus network covers over 3,000 kilometers area and has 10,000 stops. The buses of Madrid operate from 6 am to 11.30 pm, but there are also night buses that run every night from 11:55 to 5:50 am. One way ticket costs €1.50, and 10 trips ticket costs the same as metro.

Taxi

If you are in a hurry, carrying too much weight, or traveling at night, the taxis of Madrid may be of great help for you. Even if the taxis of Madrid are cheaper than other major countries of Europe, it is still an expensive way to get around. Very few Spanish taxi drivers know English, so if you don't know Spanish, we recommend writing down the address you need to go to. The price per kilometer is €1.10 on Monday to Friday between 7 am and 9 pm, but it is €1.35 for bank holidays, Saturday, Sunday, and every day from 9 pm - 7 am.

Rent a Car

Renting a car is not a logical option in Madrid, where the streets are quite complicated. Even if you feel comfortable being with your vehicle, you may find yourself facing many problems, such as finding a parking spot.

Bike

If you want to visit the city, have fun, and do sports, you are in luck because the BiciMAD bike share program in Madrid allows this with plenty of docking stations. You can get one, three, or five day passes from the stations and enjoy the city on the bike.
