The construction of the suspension bridge with the largest central span in the world continues. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be put into service on 18 March 2022.
Adil Karaismailoğlu, Transport and Infrastructure Minister, stated that currently 5,000 people are working in the project, 600 of which are engineers, and the project is one of the most important projects both in the world and Turkey. He went on saying “Bridge piers will be 318 meters higher than the water surface. These piers will be the largest steel piers in the world. The distance between the two bridge piers will be 2023 meters. The bridge is 4,600-meter long in total. When completed, the bridge will reduce the travel time from 1.5 hours to 6 or 7 minutes.”
He noted that the Northern Marmara Highway is 400-kilometer long.
“We are uniting Asia and Europe with the Northern Marmara Highway and 1915 Çanakkale Bridge. Osmangazi Bridge and İstanbul-İzmir Highway have already been in use. We’re working on Marmara Region as if it is a golden necklace we process. These projects are of high significance for the world and our country.”
